Award FAQs
Who are they for? The Awards are open to any student who achieves a full Access to Higher Education Diploma with DistanceLearningCentre.com. One set of Awards are made in September/October each year, for students who completed their Access to HE Diplomas and were entered for the previous November or June Moderations.
What do the winners receive? Award winners be repaid half the cost of their course fees in recognition of their exceptional achievements, currently worth £599.85! They will also receive an official Award of Achievement Certificate.
How do I enter? All students who achieve a full Access to HE Diploma are entered automatically. Tutors put forward the names of their nominees and outline reasons as to why they are making the nomination. Other tutors who have worked with the student are also be asked to contribute and comment. The nominations are then judged by the DistanceLearningCentre.com Awards Panel.
What might make someone an award winner? The principal factors taken into consideration by the panel are:
- Helping others − for example, students who are active on the forum helping other students.
- Overcoming adversity − students who have achieved their Access to HE Diploma even though they have faced adversity or difficult circumstances whilst on the course.
- Academic excellence − students who have personally excelled in their studies. This does not necessarily mean that students have to have achieved all distinctions, it focuses on the 'distance travelled' from when they started the course to their achievement on the course.
When do the awards start? The first round of Awards was made in August 2014 and now they are awarded in September/October each year.

History These Awards of Achievement used to be called the 'Fab 5 Awards' but, based on the experience of the first 4 years of the awards, our judges felt that making 10 awards instead of 5 created a better opportunity to recognise the amazing achievements of more of our students. They felt that every year they had to eliminate too many of the nominated students from the awards, when they really wanted to mark and celebrate their success.
The website and materials were easy to navigate and the Facebook group gave me extra reassurance and support.

Support of tutors, & the wider student community were fundamental in enabling me to overcome adversity. The peer support of fellow students proved a wonderful resource. People of all ages & backgrounds united in their desire to study & self-develop, quick to offer help & encouragement. So I became active in supporting others through the Facebook Group. Richard

I was very nervous about beginning my studies as I thought that Access to HE Diplomas were aimed at mature students, being 17 at the time of beginning my studies. But I was so wrong!
The Diploma is for anyone wanting to enter higher education. The staff, and my tutors especially, couldn't have been more accommodating and supportive. Beth
From day one I found my tutors to be incredibly friendly, supportive and accessible. They encourage independent learning, but are always there to give guidance and answer questions of any kind.
The learning materials are brilliant; extremely thorough and logically laid out in topics and sub-topics, so you move smoothly through. Victoria
The materials were easy to follow. I received advice from others via the Facebook page & from my personal tutor, who was always so quick to answer any questions. During the modules, I developed my research methods & even my English improved. I am far more confident in finding the pros & cons of every theory. I now feel I am in a far better position & I am currently enrolled on an LLB Qualifying Law degree. Sean
They stood out for me because of their flexibility and affordability.
Enrolling to study remotely for a science course, was overwhelmingly nerve-wracking but my tutors were very kind, supportive and helpful. Their support allowed me to excel and achieve high grades. I have now secured a place at a university. Fanny
