The Promotion and Marketing Department is responsible for promoting and advertising our courses and our Company. It is also responsible for managing our presence on social media, branding, web design and web development.
The department is managed by Andrew Whitehead, assisted by various other staff from across the organisation, who take on different roles.
- Andrew Whitehead manages the advertising and PR for the company and also manages the web design and development.
- Karen Hayday, Liam Duxbury, Rhia Hayday, Carmel Smith and Rebecca Smith all manage our Social Media prescence and assist with other marketing activity.
Andrew Whitehead (Executive Director for Business)
Andrew has an Honours Degree in Zoology and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). He has taught and managed courses in Further and Higher Education across a wide range of subjects including: Science, Health, Conservation & Environmental Studies, Information Technology and Animal Management. Andrew has been a Director of DLC since 2001 and has extensive experience of Business Management, previously running a Web Design Company and working as a Senior Manager in a Local Authority Environmental Management Department.
Karen Hayday (Executive Director for Curriculum)
Karen has a degree in Psychology and Sociology, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). She has been a researcher at a University and has taught and managed courses in Further and Higher Education for well over 30 years. Karen has been an external examiner for the Royal College of Nursing and is also a qualified Occupational Tester. Karen founded DistanceLearningCentre.com (DLC) in 1993.
Liam Duxbury (Curriculum Development Manager for ABID)
After leaving Secondary School, Liam worked as a care assistant whilst completing his A levels studies and later made this is full time vocation. As an adult learner he went back into further education before going on to gain a First Class Honours Degree in Biochemistry. After graduation he worked as a Biomedical Scientist in a busy Histology department, and after completed a PGCE in Further and Higher Education and went on to work as a Biology and Chemistry Specialist Tutor in an FE College, where he taught Core Sciences at GCSE, A level, BTEC National Diploma and Access to HE. As his passion for teaching adult learners developed, Liam became the curriculum lead on the Access to HE Diploma and he was also appointed as a moderator for a qualification awarding Body.
Rhia Hayday (Curriculum Development Manager)
Rhia has an MA (Hons) in English Literature and Religious Studies and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). She has a particular interest in the changing face of British society, gender and ethics. Rhia has experience in designing learning materials for the DistanceLearningCentre.com, international and British educational projects, and has worked in academic publishing.
Carmel Smith (Social Media Assistant)
Carmel returned to education as an adult, after completing her Access to HE she went on to gain a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychology Research Methods, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, and she is currently completing her PhD in Psychology. Carmel has experience of teaching psychology at GCSE, A Level and Degree Level, she has also taught education at Degree Level. In addition to Psychology, Carmel has experience in teaching Btec Health and Social Care and English GCSE. Carmel is also a current A Level Psychology examiner for Edexcel.
Rebecca Smith (Executive Manager for Curriculum)
Rebecca has a BSc (Combined Hons) in Psychology and Biology. She has taught Psychology and Biology A Level and GCSE at a large secondary school where she was the Psychology curriculum leader for over 15 years. Rebecca has been an examiner for OCR Psychology and AQA Biology.
