Access to Nursing - Questions!

Thinking about applying? How does it work? What do other students have to say?

Access to Nursing - Questions!

Postby Louisey » Tue Jul 27, 2010 12:50 pm

Hi all,

I'm Louise and new to the forum, I'm thinking of sigining up but have a few doubts and questions!!

Firstly, most of the references on here are to GSCE's in England however I'm in Scotland and wondered if anyone had any information in how the access to nursing relates to Scottish Qualifications?? I have a B in Higher English however this was gained exactly 10 years ago so by the time I go to Uni it will be 11 years old...! I'm just a bit confused as to what this will mean as I'm planning on applying to Uni THIS year.

Secondly, as I have dragged my heels I now have only 10 months until the June moderation dates if I want to Apply in September for Sept 11 admisson!! Has anyoe else had the same issues etc.? Just really looking for some reassurance that this is really possible!!

Louise :) x

Hi Louise,

I'm not in Scotland but I am starting next week with a view to finishing in June next year. I'm applying in September 2010 for a september 2011 intake. so if i get offered a place it really will be dependent on me passing this access to Nursing through the DLC.

I also have 3 kids and work 25 hours a week so I'm panicking that I won't be able to fit it all in but we'll give it a go!!
If I do get offered a place and need more time i've heard you can defer til the next intake so maybe that would be an option if it takes more study time than you can give?

Hope this helps and good luck

Tammy

Hi there
I started the course in August last year and finished at the beginning of June this year.
I have English O level (from 1984!!!) and recently did a Learn Direct maths course. My tutor thought it was safer for me to do the level two english and maths as there was some confusion over credits etc.
The maths and english was no problem if you have to take them with the DLC and the time factor shouldn't be a problem, but I'd suggest you make sure you do some studying everyday.
Good luck both of you
I'm off to uni soon thanks to the DLC :D
