Help with IT Skills

Virtual Training Suite

http://www.vts.rdn.ac.uk/
Teach yourself essential Internet skills for all areas
The RDN Virtual Training Suite aims to help students, lecturers and researchers in UK higher and further education to develop their Internet information literacy and ICT skills (though it is also freely available for any one else to use).
It offers a set of FREE "teach yourself" tutorials, delivered over the Web, each of which offers Internet skills training in a particular subject area. There's a tutorial for most of the subjects taught in universities and colleges.
The tutorials offer "any time, any place" training and include quizzes and interactive exercises to lighten the learning experience. They offer a subject-based approach to Internet skills training, enabling you to:

  1. TOUR key Web sites for your subject
See the sites that can help with essays, course work, research and teaching.
  2. DISCOVER how to search the Internet
Find the best search tools and techniques.
  3. REVIEW and JUDGE Web sites
Learn how to avoid common pitfalls on the Internet, by evaluating the information you find.
  4. REFLECT and PLAN to work efficiently
Decide how to make the most of the Internet for your own study, teaching or research.

To work through all the sections takes around 1-2 hours, though you might prefer to do one chunk at a time over more than one sitting, or focus on the sections of most relevance to your work.
The tutorials can be used by individuals as a "teach yourself" tool, or by lecturers, librarians and trainers wanting to teach Internet skills to their students. Supplementary "Resources for Teachers and Trainers" can be found on each tutorial. The tutorials are ideal for incorporating into taught courses or VLEs (Virtual Learning Environments). They can be embedded into university and college courses and can support training in information skills and key skills in ICT.
